BUDAPEST THE PEARL ON THE DANUBE

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the political, linguistic, commercial and cultural center of the country. It is regarded as the international economic center of Central Europe. With a population of approximately 1.7 million, Budapest is the seventh largest city in the European Union. The cities on both sides of the Danube have a history going back one thousand years. Budapest was formed by the merger of Buda on the right bank of the Danube and Pest on the left bank in 1873.

LANGUAGE

Hungarian, or Magyar, is a Finno-Ugric language of the Uralic family. It is the mother tongue of Magyars, but many Hungarians also speak English. Hungarian is the official language of Hungary and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union.

Hungary’s social insurance system is run by the National Health Insurance Fund (OEP). The health system is well developed and modern. Hungary implements free public medical care for all Hungarian citizens, and universal health insurance covers 100% of the entire population. Hungary is one of the main destinations for medical tourism in Europe. The country has a leading position in the field of dental tourism, taking up 42% of the traffic in Europe and 21% globally. Hungary has many hot springs (for example: Széchenyi Bath).

Hungarian foie gras is also famous in the world.

LIFE - WINE

Hungary is the sixth largest wine-producing country in Europe. Hungary has been a major wine producer since ancient times. You can often find famous wines from Hungary abroad, especially the famous Tokaj noble sweet wine, which was the favorite wine of European royals and nobles at that time. Tokaj in Hungary is the oldest protected wine region in Europe. The Eger red wine (‘Bull Blood’) produced in Eastern Hungary is also world-famous.

EDUCATION

The Hungarian education system is divided into three levels: children from 6 years old and above must go to elementary school. After graduating from elementary school, they go to middle school, then high school.

Hungary’s primary and secondary school systems are divided into three methods, all of which take 12 years to finish. The biggest difference between the three different systems is the number of years to go to each school, namely: 4+8 years, 6+6 years, and 8+4 years, spread between elementary, middle and high school. Children and parents can decide which one to choose.

Hungary has both public and private schools. Public schools are free, and international schools as well as private schools have tuition fees. Students who pass the entrance examination at the age of 18 can go on to study in universities (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs). Many universities in Hungary are world-renowned, among which medicine, law, engineering, economics, and technology are considered to be some of the best in Europe.

Hungary won the most Nobe prizes in proportion to its population of only 10 million. So far, 14 Hungarians have become Nobel Prize winners. The demand for qualified professionals in Hungary and Europe is also very high. The European and Central European headquarters of several large European and Asian companies are operating in Budapest. In addition, the Hungarian government has created very favorable conditions to actively support the establishment of local enterprises.
